Glaucoma is a leading cause of vision loss and blindness. It is important to know the early signs of glaucoma so that it may be diagnosed and treated before significant vision loss has occurred. Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palmettoeyeandlaser.com\/about-us\/our-doctors\/\">eye doctors<\/a> in Boiling Springs recommend yearly eye exams to check for vision changes and diseases such as glaucoma. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.palmettoeyeandlaser.com\/specialty-eye-care\/glaucoma\/\">Glaucoma<\/a> affects millions of people in the U.S., but many of those are unaware they have the disease. There is currently no cure for glaucoma, but there are treatment options if it\u2019s detected early enough. Different types of glaucoma present alternate warning signs \u2014 and sometimes there are no symptoms, particularly in open-angle glaucoma, the most common form of the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you experience any of the following symptoms,\nyou should seek immediate help:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Loss of peripheral or\nside vision:<\/strong> This is usually the&nbsp;first sign of glaucoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Seeing halos around lights: <\/strong>If you see rainbow-colored circles around lights or are unusually sensitive to light, it could be a sign of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palmettoeyeandlaser.com\/specialty-eye-care\/glaucoma-treatment\/\">glaucoma<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vision loss:<\/strong> Especially\nif it happens suddenly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Redness in the eye:<\/strong>\nSometimes accompanied by pain, which may be a sign of injury, infection or\nacute glaucoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eye that looks hazy:<\/strong>\nA cloudy-looking cornea is the most common early sign of childhood glaucoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nausea or vomiting:<\/strong>\nEspecially when it accompanies severe eye pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pain in the eye and\nin the head:<\/strong> This often occurs in angle-closure glaucoma, a type of\nglaucoma which can develop quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tunnel vision:<\/strong> You may start to lose vision around the edges of your visual field.
